00:00Wirral Council's revealed its plans to buy up an old railway line in two parts as part of £15m
00:06plans to create a new park in Birkenhead. The local authority intends to create the park along
00:10the Dock Branch rail line which stretches from Tower Road near Wirral Waters to Green Lane
00:15train station. Original plans were for a 1.1km stretch from Tower Road to Argyll Street with
00:20new landscapes, a cycle and walking route, gardens and wildlife habitats. A new 1200 capacity event
00:25space is also planned as part of the new park which will be connected to live music venue
00:29Future Yard. The second stage would then extend from there through Birkenhead Town Centre past
00:34plans for a new residential development at Hind Street to Green Lane station. The Hind Street
00:38Urban Village project was recently awarded £51m of government funding and is one of the council's
00:44biggest regeneration projects. A bid for £14.9m of funding has been submitted by the council
00:49to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority with a decision expected in November. If agreed,
00:54this funding means the park will need to be delivered by March 2027.
