Search resumes for an 11-year-old boy who went missing off the NSW Central Coast

A search has resumes for an 11-year-old boy swept out to sea on the New South Wales Central Coast yesterday.

00:00The search here off the entrance is involving a rescue helicopter, multiple drones, police

00:07vessels out on the water, jet skis as well with surf lifesavers, council lifesavers and

00:13marine police all involved in looking for the 11-year-old boy.

00:17What the police have told us is that they are still treating this as a search mission.

00:21They have not moved into recovery stage even though there are police divers out in the

00:26water today.

00:27We have aerial assets, marine assets and surf lifesaving assets completely on the ground

00:35and that will continue throughout the day with the priority being trying to locate the

00:40boy.

00:41The understanding is at this stage that the family were here fishing and they were attempting

00:46to cross the channel when the boy was swept into the ocean from the channel.

00:51We know from police that the boy was visiting the entrance from Sydney, from Western Sydney

00:56with his father and with his other young brothers.

00:59They were on a fishing trip yesterday and they were crossing the entrance channel from

01:02north to south in the afternoon just after 5 o'clock and that's when the little boy got

01:07into trouble.

01:08So there were some bystanders quickly jumping in the water to help dad with the other children

01:11and by the time he turned around and went to help his 11-year-old, the current unfortunately

01:15was too strong and he had been swept away in the water.

01:19So the search is focusing on the area from the entrance down to Avoca Beach which is

01:23quite a few beaches away.

01:25It's an extensive search area but the conditions here are good.

01:28The water is quite clear and the surf is not very strong today.

01:32The search as far as we know will continue throughout the rest of the day.
