00:00Two men have been arrested following a house fire allegedly started by fireworks, resulting

00:09in an estimated 510,000 ringgit in damages.

00:14Kulai OCPD Superintendent Tan Seng Lee reported that the fire occurred around 9.56pm on Thursday

00:21after a 41-year-old woman alerted authorities through the Merse 999 emergency line.

00:28Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been an act of arson involving

00:34fireworks, causing significant damage to the homeowner's property.

00:39In response, the Kulai District Police's Criminal Investigation Department detained a 30-year-old

00:44man and a 23-year-old foreign national.

00:48Various types of fireworks were seized during their arrest.

00:52Superintendent Tan added that the foreign suspect tested positive for THC, the active

00:57compound in cannabis, in a preliminary urine test.

01:01Both suspects are now under investigation for multiple offences, including arson under

01:07Section 435 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 14 years in prison and

01:14a possible fine.

01:15They also face charges under Section 8 of the Explosives Act for the illegal possession

01:21of explosives, punishable by up to seven years in prison or a fine of 10,000 ringgit.

01:27The Kulai Magistrate's Court has granted a six-day remand for the suspects from November

01:311 to November 6 to facilitate further investigation.

01:36The Kulai District Police have urged the public to prioritise safety and avoid using unauthorised

01:42fireworks, warning that strict action will be taken against violators.
