00:10Segamat District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamed Jumazan Zahir Chek Ismail said the incident occurred at about 12.30am
00:18while the victim was handling fireworks in conjunction with Chinese New Year celebrations.
00:24Police said the fireworks exploded, causing severe injuries that resulted in the amputation of his left leg.
00:31He was subsequently rushed to the red zone of Hospital Segamat for treatment and is said to be in stable
00:36condition.
00:37The case is being investigated under Sections 6 and 8 of the Explosives Act 1957,
00:44which carries a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
00:51Police advised the public to use only permitted fireworks in open areas and to observe safety precautions.
