A 30-year-old man lost his left leg after a fireworks explosion outside his home in Taman Damai Jaya, Bukit Siput, Segamat early Tuesday (Feb 17) morning.

Segamat District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail said the incident occurred at 12:30 a.m. while the victim was handling fireworks as part of Chinese New Year celebrations.

00:31He was subsequently rushed to the red zone of Hospital Segamat for treatment and is said to be in stable

00:37The case is being investigated under Sections 6 and 8 of the Explosives Act 1957,
00:44which carries a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
00:51Police advised the public to use only permitted fireworks in open areas and to observe safety precautions.
