‘I love how fresh and clean it is’: People of London on the Elizabeth Line

We ask Londoners what they think about the Elizabeth Line, and whether they’d like to see more of the underground upgraded.

00:00Yeah, I use the Elizabeth line to get into work when I go in to the office nowadays.

00:07Love how quiet it is, love how clean it is, love that it's fresh and new and lovely and

00:12a little bit futuristic.

00:13Yeah, I would love to see some upgrades to other lines.

00:16I mean there's certain lines that I avoid at all costs, Central line specifically, Bakerloo

00:21line could do with.

00:22Yeah, I only use it a couple of times but I'm very impressed with it, I must admit.

00:27A friend of mine uses it a lot, he travels in from Reading, it's been a game changer

00:30for him.

00:31The Elizabeth line in London has been awarded Britain's top architecture prize for its

00:36innovative design offering a flawless solution to inner city transport.

00:42The Lizzie line, which officially opened in May 2022, is often celebrated for its efficiency

00:48and modern infrastructure, but it's the Elizabeth line's streamlined design that's hit headlines

00:54this week after it was awarded a top architecture prize.

00:59The Royal Institute of British Architecture has named the Elizabeth line, designed by

01:04Grimshaw, Maynard, Equation and Atkins Realists, as the winner of the 2024 Reba Stirling Prize.

01:12Yeah, well here we are in South East London, we haven't got any underground, so it'd be

01:17nice if it was possible to move south east, which doesn't go any further than Brixton.

01:22I think the rest of London's pretty well covered, but our bit would be nice.

01:26Definitely, things like the Victoria line and that, yeah, came back from holiday recently

01:29on the Victoria line, been out to Morocco, really hot country, the hottest were the entire

01:34time was on the Victoria line coming back on the Tube, just mayhem, it's crazy.

01:38Oh, I mean ideal, you know, the London Underground is world leading in terms of the design and

01:48its ability to get people around, so many people around such a large city, so I think

01:54let's continue being world leading with our public transport, definitely.
