00:00On the heels of last Monday's budget presentation by Finance Minister Colm Imbert, where he
00:05backed Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley's statement that the country will endure a two-year period
00:10of financial hardship, political analyst Dr Mukesh Bastio is of the opinion that there
00:15were questions left unanswered.
00:45Dr Bastio also wonders aloud what's next after the two-year period of economic hardship.
01:15Crime is the second major issue facing the government at this time and according to Dr
01:25Bastio, it is an issue which can be both social as well as economic, and the analyst would
01:31be surprised to see the eventual murder toll hit record heights.
02:01Dr Bastio also warned that the inability to control the social issue of crime can have
02:15a knockdown effect on the economy and businesses, and one such effect could come in the tourism
02:21sector, a sector which has been earmarked for investment and growth by the government.
02:51With the country's next general election on the horizon, Dr Bastio says that the politicians have
03:16been talking the talk with regards to solving these problems, however, it's now time to walk
03:22the walk. Dominic Ramroop, TV6 News.
