00:00Nadia Puran alleged she was sexually abused and coerced during her time at the women's prison at Golden Grove, Uruka.
00:08Her allegations formed part of legal proceedings over her treatment while incarcerated.
00:13Grant, a prison's officer one, denied the allegations in an affidavit filed in 2022.
00:20In a response to questions from TV6 News, Grant said she will not argue the substantive allegations through the media.
00:28I recognize the seriousness and the sensitivity of the allegations made against me.
00:34However, I do not intend to litigate the substantive allegations through the media.
00:40Those issues properly belong before a court.
00:43I remain respectful to the judiciary and their legal process.
00:48Grant also maintains there must be a clear distinction between an allegation and a finding.
00:53She questions whether she was given a meaningful opportunity to defend herself, referring to her absence due to ill health.
01:01Puran was awarded approximately $2.4 million in damages by the High Court following her legal action concerning her treatment
01:09while incarcerated.
01:11Grant maintains that everyone is entitled to be heard.
01:14I will pursue the appropriate legal avenues available to me because regardless, regardless of an allegation, every person is entitled
01:27to be heard.
01:28This mother should have been properly ventilated before a court against the evidence.
01:37And a person should not be punished because they could not attend because of ill health.
