00:00The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has rejected former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's
00:06request for the temporary release of his passport for a holiday in Uzbekistan.
00:11Judge Azura Alwi said Muhyiddin could still take a holiday within Malaysia, Berita Harian
00:16reported.
00:17The Perikatan Nasional chairman had sought release of his passport from October 4 to
00:2214 for a short break with his wife as he was stressed with court charges.
00:27Earlier, his lawyer Hisham Tehpoteh said he wasn't a flight risk, noting his family
00:32remained in Malaysia, he had never failed to show up in court, and fully cooperated
00:36with MACC investigations against him.
00:39Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Alismat opposed the request, calling the holiday reason trivial,
00:44also suggesting he could take a break in Malaysia.
00:48Muhyiddin faces charges of power abuse linked to the Jana Wibawa program, where he allegedly
00:52sought 232.5 million ringgit for his party and three counts of money laundering involving
00:58200 million ringgit.
01:00He has had his passport released four times before for travel since being charged in March
01:042023.
