00:00Hurricane Helene has some taking a closer look at Project 2025.
00:04The government overhaul plan from the right-wing Heritage Foundation was highlighted by Democratic
00:09Representative Jared Moskowitz during a House Oversight Committee hearing on September 19th.
00:14Project 2025 wants to get rid of NOAA, wants to get rid of the National Weather Service,
00:20you know, the people that tell you the weather and help us prepare for hurricanes.
00:24While the plan does not actually call for getting rid of the National Weather Service,
00:28it does say that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration should be dismantled.
00:33And it says that the National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA,
00:36should fully commercialize its forecasting operations.
00:40A July article in The Atlantic referred to this as the MAGA plan to end free weather reports.
00:46Former President Trump has publicly distanced himself from the plan.
00:49I have nothing to do with Project 2025.
00:52But critics have pointed out his connections to Project 2025's creators.
00:57Thomas F. Gilman, the author of the section covering NOAA, was chief financial officer
01:01and assistant secretary for administration in the Trump administration's Commerce Department.
