The Opposition Leader says the Prime Minister's declaration to "kill them violently" in support of Tuesday's lethal U.S, military action on what the US. calls narco-terrorists is- Quote- "completely unbecoming of our head of government."

The Opposition Leader is also expressing concerns on fisherfolk and those working on offshore oil and gas rigs in this country's waters.

00:00Opposition Leader Penelope Beckel says the opposition is clear in support of strong and decisive action against drug trafficking, but it must be lawful, coordinated, and respectful of our national values and international obligations.
00:16That was the opposition leader's response to Prime Minister Kamala Posada's declaration to the media on Tuesday that she has, quote, no sympathy for traffickers. The U.S. military should kill them all violently, end quote.
00:30The Prime Minister was expressing her support for what U.S. President Donald Trump said on Facebook and Truth Social had been a kinetic strike by the U.S. military forces on his orders against positively identified Trendy Aragua narco-terrorists in the South Cum area of responsibility.
00:50The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Exxon Tuesday that the vessel had departed from Venezuela and later told the U.S. media that the drugs were probably headed to Trinidad or some other country.
01:01President Trump said that the strike occurred while the terrorists were at sea and international waters transporting illegal narcotics heading to the United States and said 11 terrorists were killed in action.
01:13Opposition leader Beckles said on Wednesday that the Prime Minister's statement in support of the U.S. action on the vessel was, quote, reckless, disgraceful, and inconsistent with the oath she has taken to uphold the Constitution and the law, end quote.
01:29The opposition leader further said that the Prime Minister's statement draws Trinidad and Tobago into unnecessary conflict over which we have little to no control and can put our legitimate fisher folks, offshore workers, and other workers in the maritime space at increased risk.
01:45The opposition leader said it would be important for the Prime Minister to give some clarity on the location of the vessel in question and additionally clarity on any coordination with the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.
01:56The opposition leader is calling on the Prime Minister to immediately retract her statement to appear before the media and to, quote, provide the public with proper answers, end quote.
02:08Opposition leader Beckles asked if CARICOM was consulted or engaged before there was what she called such unprecedented alignment with foreign military action.
02:19On August 23rd, the Prime Minister, Professor Alba Sese, said in a statement in support of the recent deployment of U.S. Navy vessels in the waters near Venezuela that, quote,
02:29the Trinidad and Tobago government has not engaged and has no intention of engaging CARICOM on this matter.
02:36Each member state can speak for themselves on this issue, end quote.
02:40Opposition leader Beckles said on Wednesday that Trinidad and Tobago deserves leadership that is strong, wise, and responsible.
