Preston schools back in the 1990s

00:00Hi, my name is Jack Marshall and I'm a digital reporter with the Lancashire Post and welcome

00:14to our picture collection from the early 1990s featuring schools from across Preston, Forwood

00:21and Chorley. Now at that time school kind of reflected a mix of the kind of classic

00:25traditional education and the more gradual adoption of modern technology and teaching

00:29methods so students in this area attended schools which had a strong focus on academic

00:35performance, sports, extracurricular activities whilst also beginning to see the introduction

00:39of things like computers into the classroom marking the start of what can be now seen

00:44as a very influential digital transition. School uniforms were obviously a staple, blazers

00:49and ties were all worn by pupils, lessons in subjects like maths, English and science

00:54were conducted with textbooks and the emerging use of IT suites and then obviously sports

01:00played a huge role in school life at that time as well with football, netball, rugby

01:05and lots of other kind of school teams competing on a local and regional level fostering school

01:11spirit and lots of personal development for the kids who took part as well. Friendship

01:16groups obviously formed around special interests like music which saw the rise of lots of iconic

01:22bands if you look on a more grand and national level and then after school clubs centred

01:27around things like drama and art were also very popular with teachers remaining important

01:32and central figures in student life providing lots of guidance and discipline as they do

01:36to this day really as the curriculum gradually shifted to incorporate more modern ideas.

01:42So yeah like we say this is a picture collection of archive images which capture school life,

01:48the school life of young people across Preston, Forwood and Charlie during what was looking

01:52back a very vibrant year to be alive and as they say your school years are some of the

01:57best years of your life so what better way to kind of take a trip down memory lane and

02:01embrace that than by checking out these pictures. Cheers.
