A total of 65 people are being bestowed National Awards, some of them posthumously.
The highest among the categories; the Order of the Republic of T&T, is being awarded for distinguished and outstanding service to the country.
The ceremony is underway at President's House.

00:00The Order of the Republic of TNT has been awarded to three people, former
00:04President of the National Gas Company Mark LeQuan, who's being recognized for
00:09his contributions to the energy sector in over two decades, as well as the
00:13steel pan industry as an award-winning composer, songwriter and documentary
00:19filmmaker. Professor Patrick Hussain for his contributions to telecommunications
00:25engineering, which are being referred to as transformative, and his philanthropic
00:30work in the digital sphere. Both LeQuan and Hussain received their ORTT award at
00:36President's House a short while ago.
00:55The third awardee in this category, Sidney Russell Martino, Senior
01:09Counsel, is a former Attorney General and former President of the Law
01:13Association. He served on the boards of Republic Bank and BWIA and is a
01:18director of the Wildfowl Trust. Martino is unable to attend this evening's
01:24ceremony. Other awardees are receiving the Shekonia Medal Gold and Silver, which
01:29recognizes contributions toward national welfare and community building, the
01:34Hummingbird Medal Gold and Silver for loyal and devoted service or gallantry,
01:39and finally the Medal of Married Gold and Silver for outstanding contributions
01:45to public service. There are also two medals for the development of women, one
01:52gold and one bronze. Health, medicine, business, culture and the arts,
01:56volunteerism, national security, education and sport are some of the areas where
02:02the contributions of the awardees were made.
