00:00On Saturday night, Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa took to her Facebook page to share photos from a Diwali dinner at her home,
00:07where United States Chartered Affairs Jennifer Nidhardt-Deautiz and other U.S. officials were among her guests.
00:15Also in attendance was Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Sean Sobers.
00:19Earlier that day, claims surfaced on social media via blogger Rhoda Barrett,
00:24alleging that U.S. Embassy officials had been transferred to a safe house.
00:29The Post also suggested that a safe house was being prepared for the Prime Minister and Attorney General John Jeremy, Senior Counsel.
00:37These claims were later dismissed by the TTPS's special branch as false.
00:42Public Relations Officer of the United National Congress, Dr. Kirk Magoo, also responded to questions on the matter from TV6 News,
00:49calling the claims unfounded rumors by disreputable people.
00:53He said the UNC will not respond to such claims with no credible evidence behind them.
00:58This was on the heels of an advisory issued by the United States Embassy,
01:03cautioning its citizens not to visit any U.S. facilities in the country over the long weekend.
01:09It further advised them to remain vigilant, but did not provide any insight into why the advisory was issued.
01:15Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin stated that the TTPS was also on a heightened alert.
01:21He sought to give an assurance that resources have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of everyone in the country,
01:29adding that there was no need to panic.
01:31Benjamin did not go into detail on whether the elements surrounding the alert were external or internal.
01:38The developments come amid continued tensions in the Caribbean between the United States and Venezuela,
01:44spawning concern about a possible invasion of the Latin American country.
01:48The U.S. has positioned weapons of war in the region, which it has said is to combat narco trafficking.
