As an estimated 300,000 students are entering university for the first time
00:04
numbers have been crunched to find out which city is the most expensive to go
00:08
on a student night out outside of London. Liverpool is the busiest student city in
00:13
the UK as the yearly average spend on alcohol alone is an eye-watering £635.
00:18
The new study by student discount provider Student Beans has revealed
00:22
Liverpool's the most expensive city excluding the capital for a student
00:25
night out with the average student paying just under £70 in the city
00:29
centre. From paying for an entry ticket, grabbing some drinks and getting a taxi
00:33
the research found that average UK student will spend up to £49 for a
00:38
night out however according to a recent report 50% of students are going sober
00:43
for freshers week with the average cost of going sober during a night out £30
00:47
that's a saving of £18 compared their non-sober friends. According to their
00:52
data in Liverpool on average the cost of an entry ticket price for freshers
00:55
events is £13.50 whilst a taxi home will set you back £8.90. There are
01:00
certainly some savings to be made to enjoy freshers week without blowing your
01:04
budget which includes getting the bus instead of a taxi or even walk if it is
01:08
safe. The N1 bus service helps late-night revellers and it runs each weekend
01:13
between midnight and 5 a.m. ensuring night owls can travel home safely in the
01:17
early hours for just £2. I hate to sound like your mum but you've got food at
01:21
home. I know nothing hits quite like a greasy takeaway after a night out but
01:25
that's another £7 you could save on average so stock up on hangover
01:29
friendly food instead of grabbing fast food. You could go sober for the night
01:33
and you'll feel even better the next day when you spent far less on booze than
01:37
you normally would. The average cost for three pints is £23 versus £5 for
01:41
three soft drinks. Set a budget you can work out how much you have to spend on a
01:46
weekly basis and therefore how much you can allocate for each night out and
01:50
finally look for offers and freebies. Check out your locals see if they do
01:53
two-for-one on drinks and check whether you can get into a venue cheaper or even
01:57
free by going earlier.
