00:00Hey friends, I'm Stacey and this is Gorgeously Aging and today we're going to talk about
00:09how to get rid of lip lines.
00:11So there are a couple of different ways to treat lip lines, often referred to as smokers
00:16lines.
00:17These come from a variety of reasons, not just smoking.
00:20If you drink through a straw a lot or make your lips in a puckering motion, you're likely
00:26to develop lip lines over time.
00:29If you are currently a straw drinker, switch to sipping from a cup and ditch the straw.
00:34These etched in lines are typically from repetitive motion of the orbicularis oris.
00:40This is the muscle around the mouth that is responsible for the pucker.
00:45We engage these muscles strongly with facial expressions, but mostly with smoking, sucking
00:51on a straw, and those types of motions.
00:54So there are several ways to attack these lines, but your best way is going to be botulinum
01:00toxin.
01:01Neurotoxins really make that muscle weak, which allows it not to make those consistent
01:06repetitive motions that create those vertical lines.
01:10The benefit in botulinum toxin above the upper lip is that not only does it improve the vertical
01:16lip lines, but it also makes the upper lip a little fuller, hence the term lip flip.
01:23If you're treating that upper lip for that fuller upper lip effect, you'll probably notice
01:27that those vertical lip lines soften.
01:30This is also great for prevention of vertical lip lines.
01:33So even if you haven't gotten vertical lip lines yet, start doing mini lip flip treatments,
01:39just a few units in that upper lip, and you will notice that you will be able to prevent
01:44those vertical lip lines.
01:46Another thing that you can do to help with those lines is going to be microneedling of
01:50the upper lip.
01:51You can use a ton of different skin boosters when doing this.
01:55The microneedling itself, that needling, is going to stimulate collagen, which is going
02:00to help, especially with surface wrinkles.
02:03Unfortunately, microneedling isn't going to stop really strong muscles from moving.
02:09So you'll be able to help soften wrinkles, but botulinum toxin or neurotoxin is going
02:14to be the best way if you already have established, set in wrinkles.
02:20These wrinkles are called static wrinkles, and they're usually present whether you're
02:24making the expression or not.
02:26So for an example, for me, if I don't do botulinum toxin in my forehead, eventually I have static
02:32horizontal wrinkles that are etched in, and they're there whether I raise my eyebrows
02:36or not.
02:37In fact, my 18-year-old daughter, almost 19, Abby, has pretty established static wrinkles
02:43in her forehead because she makes a lot of expressions with her eyebrows.
02:47So these lines are horizontal, etched in lines that are there on her, whether she is
02:53making expressions or not.
02:54The same is true of the vertical lip lines.
02:58So for people who use their mouth, drink from a straw, smoke, and use that orbicularis oris
03:03muscle often, are probably going to see static lines that are there all the time.
03:08Maybe worse when they're making expression or drinking through a straw, but they're static.
03:12They're always there.
03:14These types of wrinkles are likely not going to be affected much by skincare products on
03:20the surface of the skin, mesotherapy, or microneedling.
03:24Now both microneedling and mesotherapy will help those things.
03:28In fact, it builds natural collagen, which is great.
03:31Static lines and wrinkles are really initiated from the muscle movement.
03:35So even if we're doing all the best things with skincare, we're doing microneedling,
03:39we're doing mesotherapy, if you're not relaxing that muscle with a neurotoxin or Botox, botulinum
03:46toxin, the muscle is still going to keep working and those lines are going to be present.
03:51That's not to say that you can't soften the lines, improve the skin, and make progress
03:55using both microneedling and mesotherapy, but having the foundation of a Botox treatment
04:01is really going to help.
04:03Now, of course, good skincare is one of the foundations of health.
04:06Of course, good skincare is one of the foundations of treating any skin issue.
04:11So if we attack this from a neurotoxin standpoint, doing regular microneedling to boost natural
04:17collagen in the skin, which is not only great for the lip, but the whole face, neck, and
04:21chest, and then periodic or quarterly mesotherapy treatments, using a good skin booster, and
04:27I like one that has polynucleotide to really trigger some activity on a cellular level,
04:33getting the issues from all of those angles is super beneficial.
04:37Keeping the skin moisturized is also very important.
04:41These tips are true of any area on the face that you are troubled with static wrinkles,
04:46and namely, that would be the forehead, the 11s, crow's feet, and the lip.
04:53These are areas where botulinum toxin are really foundational to eliminating those etched
04:59in wrinkles that come from repetitive muscle movement.
05:03Anytime we can calm down that muscle, those static wrinkles lessen and soften.
