People on the street: Should tuition fees be raised?

A number of universities came out during freshers week and appealed for tuition fees to be raised to allow them to stay afloat.  With that in mind, we went out into Manchester and asked people on the street what they thought of the potential price increase.

00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World today. I'm on the streets of Manchester asking people about tuition fees and the reason for that is during

00:04Freshers' Week a number of universities came forward and requested that tuition fees be raised so that they can remain afloat.

00:09So we want to know if students or people who've graduated from university here would be willing to pay more, whether they think it's fair

00:15that it's asked and what they would be willing to pay for university.

00:18I think students are paying too much.

00:20Depending on, obviously if they're struggling, like yeah,

00:23if it, obviously if it keeps it open, if it gives us more things to do in uni, like trips and everything,

00:28then I'll definitely pay more. But if it's just for them to stay open maybe, then I'd probably be a bit off to not pay for it.

00:36You're exploiting international students that are paying way over the odds and then now that you can't exploit them,

00:41you want to exploit us. Stop the exploitation, man.

00:43Education is a universal right. You should make it free again.

00:47I think there is too much choice.

00:50Especially like in Manchester, there's three just in Manchester.

00:53I think they should limit it to maybe one per city. If it helps to reduce the fees, then yeah, I think that'll be a good idea.
