00:03that's what the government called the return of BRP Escoda Shoal to Palawan

00:08after 5 months of surveillance there.

00:11Through the Philippine Coast Guard, it doesn't mean that

00:15the patrolling of the Philippines will stop in our territories.

00:23BRP Teresa Magbanoa is one of the largest ships of the Philippine Coast Guard.

00:29It was deployed in Sabina or Escoda Shoal in the West Philippine Sea in April

00:35to monitor the possible reclamation of China

00:38due to the damaged coral that was found.

00:42Escoda Shoal is only 71 nautical miles from Palawan

00:48and Ayungin Shoal is near here, where BRP Sierra Madre is stationed.

00:53Last June, the crews of PCG in BRP Teresa Magbanoa celebrated the Day of Freedom

01:01and the Philippine Coast Guard was elevated

01:05despite the presence of Chinese ships.

01:08China warned that BRP Sierra Madre will follow BRP Teresa Magbanoa.

01:15In July, a video was released of the tabloid owned by China

01:20from the China Coast Guard of the Philippine ship carrying construction materials.

01:27The last shipment of cookies was questioned.

01:30Also in July, when BRP Teresa Magbanoa faced

01:35the so-called The Monster Ship of the China Coast Guard,

01:39it was radio challenged by PCG.

02:03If we compare BRP Teresa Magbanoa, which is 97 meters long,

02:09The Monster Ship of the China Coast Guard is more than half,

02:13which is 165 meters long and weighs 12,000 tons.

02:20The tensions in Escoda Shoal got hotter.

02:23Last month, food and other necessities became critical

02:29because the humanitarian resupply mission of BRP Teresa Magbanoa was halted

02:34after the two PCG ships of the China Coast Guard,

02:39Chinese Maritime Militia and People's Liberation Army Navy were halted.

02:50through PCG's helicopter.

02:57The Philippine ship was left in Escoda Shoal.

03:01At the end of August, BRP Teresa Magbanoa was repeatedly halted by the China Coast Guard.

03:09The PCG ship was hit by a heavy shell,

03:13where a round part of it was pierced because of the halt.

03:18Until yesterday, BRP Teresa Magbanoa returned to Palawan

03:24after a five-month deployment in Escoda Shoal.

03:28This was also because of the bad weather and the lack of supply due to the Chinese occupation.

03:35PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Hill Gavan

03:38assigned the crew of BRP Teresa Magbanoa to return the ship to Palawan.

03:58It is ours, peacefully and legally, because we can and we must.

04:08The four crews were in good condition,

04:11but they needed to be medically evacuated due to dehydration,

04:15stomach pain and arthritis.

04:18According to Commodore J. Tariella,

04:20the crews of BRP Teresa Magbanoa ate only porridge for a month.

04:26They also drank only water.

04:29While they were getting a chance to use the air-conditioning system,

04:33the ship's desalinator system was damaged to make fresh water.

04:38Because of the prolonged stay and usage of the desalinator machine,

04:42it would require brand new filters.

04:45We can say that the salt water it converts is potable drinking water.

04:52Because of the prolonged stay, it is no longer fresh water.

04:57Despite the departure of BRP Teresa Magbanoa from Escoda Shoal,

05:01PCG decided that no part of the territory or Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines should be used.

05:10PCG also assured that the Philippines will continue patrolling the West Philippine Sea,

05:17even though the ship may not be returned as part of the operational matter.

05:23We have not lost anything. We did not abandon anything.

05:28Escoda Shoal is still part of our Exclusive Economic Zone.

05:32We can deploy vessels anytime we like. We can go there anytime we like.

05:38In addition, the incident in Escoda Shoal will not be compared to the stand-off in Escarborough Shoal or Bajo de Mocinloc in 2012.

05:47Escoda Shoal is large, with an area of 137 square meters or equivalent to four cities in Metro Manila.

05:56It also has different lagoons that can be patrolled.

06:01Compared to Escarborough Shoal, where the entry was put by the Chinese Floating Barriers.

06:06Escoda Shoal is composed of two lagoons on the west side and eastern side.

06:11And each lagoon has different areas where you can pass through.

06:16So, this is entirely different.

06:19When BRP Teresa Magbanoa left, PCG said that there are currently 11 Chinese maritime militia vessels in Escoda Shoal.

06:28There are no ships of China Coast Guard and PLA Navy.

06:32PCG also assured that the country can still stop if China has a tanker reclamation.
