00:00What a guy, I'm a man on the street. What a guy, I'm loose on the beat.
00:11Stop!
00:13Now after playing Phantom Covert Ops, which is spent in a kayak, I decided to give Marineverse a try after sitting on it for a while.
00:22Now, I know it's early access, so it's why I'm going to say the parts which are nice and the points I feel could be improved on.
00:30So firstly, as you load into the game, you are greeted with menus. Now first impressions always count in a game.
00:37So in my opinion, the first thing that needs work is put a nice beautiful backdrop which represents the game in,
00:45not these ugly blue boxes that look like they have jumped out of a PC's 95 windows.
00:52I know they must be working on something as it's inside a building and there are a few kayaks laying around, but as it stands, it's just walls and a roof.
01:01So there are only three scenes to choose from right now, with a fourth one that's faded out.
01:07But three of these four are set at the same location, but just are in different times of day, sunset, day and night.
01:16Now in the final version, I would expect at least eight locations and then for each location to have day and sunset,
01:24and then maybe night if it can offer something unique to that night time, like all the different times need to offer something unique.
01:33The locations that are available look fantastic. The sea, the skies, the scenery, then the water looks amazing, the way it moves,
01:44the light reflecting the sun and the way you can see the floor in some locations.
01:49The kayak also reacts great and you can set how high or low you wish to sit in it. The rowing is good, it all works very well.
01:59So in the game menu, you are offered a relaxing paddle where you just paddle and explore.
02:06Then you have time trials. This is a nice idea. A race to the finish line and collecting stars which knocks off time.
02:16It also then has a global ranking, so it gives you purpose to the game. It also gives you a bit of a workout, so that's a good thing.
02:25Though it could do with maybe three extra games altogether. Maybe a race to get out of a maze or something.
02:34Another could be to pop balloons in any order you wish that are scattered around the map or a treasure hunt to collect pieces of a jigsaw.
02:42So a few ideas I think that I can prove this game. So as I said earlier, with night time, it could offer more marine life.
02:51Maybe glowing fish swimming around or the lighthouse working. Then in each location, as much fun as it is to explore, there's not really much to explore.
03:02You go from one end of the map to the other just looking at stuff.
03:07I think some great ideas here would be to add a series of canals that you can navigate through.
03:13Like in the Arctic, have lots of mountains and icebergs you can go between, like a maze.
03:20Then have wildlife sitting on some of the icebergs, so there's something to view.
03:25Maybe caves that you can wander and paddle through that offer some beautiful crystals in the ceiling.
03:31Or a volcano erupting and you have to get away from the lava.
03:35There really is so much that can be added and is needed to really make this game great.
03:41So overall, there is a lot of potential in this game and I look forward to seeing where it will be this time next year, which will be September 2025.
03:51But right now, I would hold off in buying this game until a lot more has been added.
03:57Unless you want to pick it up for the cheaper price that it is now of course.
