Parents of children who commit crimes, could soon find themselves in hot water.

As, the Police Service is exploring the ways to hold parents accountable.

Officials say the Children's Act, is one piece of legislation that can be used.

00:00An inquiry would have to be done certainly to determine whether the parent erred in exercising control over their children in whatever circumstance existed, you know.
00:12So it's really, it's not an automatic charge.
00:14There's also the anti-gang legislation which sort of puts an onus just not on parents but on other family members to ensure that they report that type of activity.
00:26So that is one part and one part of the sleuth of legislation that is there.
00:31There's the Education Act which mandates that children of a certain age must be in school and any breach of that puts the parent in potential criminal liability.
