The bridge connecting Govan and Partick, construction of which began in 2022, is finally set to open with government ministers and local children in attendance.

00:00The new bridge connecting Partick and Govan is set to have its formal opening this Friday
00:04the 6th of September with ministers from the Scottish and UK governments and local school
00:09children in attendance. Just under ÂŁ30 million has been spent on the project, aiming to re-establish
00:16the historic connection between the two areas and work as a central active travel route
00:20between the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the University of Glasgow's campus at
00:25Gilmore Hill. Its completion has also been widely anticipated by those who regularly
00:30travel between the West End and Southside. It is one of the longest pedestrian and cycle
00:36bridges in Europe with a width of 6 metres and 2 spans. Celebratory community events
00:42will be taking place across the weekend with a number of local businesses involved. The
00:47bridge will be open to members of the public from mid-morning on the Saturday 7th of September.
