00:05with Scotland's former First Minister, Lord Jack McConnell, calling it a no-brainer.
00:10He explained it would be good for Scotland to contribute to the international stage.
00:14The competition was intended to be held by Victoria, Australia,
00:18but the state withdrew as hosts, citing rising costs.
00:22It has been proposed that a scaled-back version of the events occurs in Glasgow,
00:26with the Commonwealth Board pledging to fund them by £100 million.
00:30Lord McConnell also noted that scaling back the events may well have saved them for the future.
00:36Scottish Labour leader Anna Sarwar also said it would be a strong shot in the arm for a city
00:41that is struggling financially. There are fears from the Scottish Government, however,
00:45that it would take too much from the public purse and damage our reputation built from 2014.
00:51The Commonwealth Board argued it wouldn't cost the public a penny.
