Glasgow headlines 1 March: The Scottish Government is to review a Glasgow City Council planning decision
  • last year
The Scottish Government has intervened on a plan to build flats in Merchant City, which was given the go ahead by Glasgow City Council despite 140 objections.

Community groups had raised concerns that the flats could threaten the future of neighbouring music venues.

The Government will now review the application and make a final decision.

Next up, contract workers at Glasgow’s First Bus depot who were due to strike have suspended action after receiving a new pay offer.

Unite the union said members would vote on the deal, and if it is rejected, they would rearrange the strike.

And finally, Glasgow City Council has embarked on a new project that will see a new park and an improved resilience to flood risk in Cardonald.

Construction work is underway at an underused area adjacent to Queensland Court, where the authority is hoping to boost sustainability.
