00:00A Ukrainian F-16 fighter jet, recently sent by NATO allies, has been destroyed.
00:06The Ukrainian military confirmed the loss and shared that it occurred during a massive
00:10Russian missile attack on Monday.
00:13Tragically, the pilot, Oleksiy Mess, lost his life in the incident.
00:18According to the Ukrainian military, the crash wasn't a direct result of an enemy missile
00:23strike.
00:24However, before the crash, Oleksiy heroically managed to destroy three cruise missiles and
00:29a drone during Russia's largest aerial assault to date.
00:33In a heartfelt statement, the Ukrainian Air Force honored Oleksiy, saying, Oleksiy saved
00:38Ukrainians from deadly Russian missiles, but sadly, at the cost of his own life.
00:44While the type of aircraft wasn't initially specified, a military source confirmed to
00:48the BBC that it was indeed an F-16.
00:53Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the U.S.-made F-16s are actively being
00:58used to shoot down Russian drones and missiles.
01:01Zelensky also appealed to allies to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles to extend
01:06their reach further into Russian territory.
01:09The Netherlands has pledged to send 24 F-16 jets alongside other military support and
01:15confirmed that Ukraine will face no restrictions on their use as long as humanitarian laws
01:20are observed.
01:22Since August 2023, around 65 F-16s have been promised to Ukraine by NATO countries, bolstering
01:29Ukraine's defense capabilities.
01:32These F-16s, along with Western-supplied missile systems like the Patriot and NASEMs, play
01:37a crucial role in defending against Russian attacks.
01:41Despite this loss, President Zelensky remains resolute.
01:46He plans to present a victory plan to U.S. President Joe Biden next month and hinted
01:50at a recent successful test of a domestically produced ballistic missile, though details
01:55remain undisclosed.
