00:00Education activists have rejected UMNO President Aman Zahid Hamidi's idea for Majlis Amanah
00:07Rakyat to establish its own primary schools.
00:11They said the government should focus on improving national schools instead.
00:15The Parent Action Group for Education said the Deputy Prime Minister's proposal was
00:19a bad idea that could further fragment the education system.
00:23PAGE chairman Noor Azimah Rahim said the education ministry should focus primarily on elevating
00:28the status and level of education in national schools so they become the top choice for
00:32parents.
00:33Malacca Action Group for Parents in Education chairman Mark Cikin agreed, saying politicians
00:38like Zahid should focus on finding ways to improve national schools instead of suggesting
00:43ideas that would lead to more students leaving the country's main education system.
00:47He said Zahid's proposal is just another example of politicians prioritizing their
00:52own survival over what's best for children and Malaysia's education system.
00:57Last week, Zahid floated the proposal at the UMNO General Assembly, saying that having
01:01its own primary schools would complete Mara's education ecosystem.
01:06Mara already has junior science colleges, polytechnics and university technology Mara.
01:11In his speech, he said this would ensure the agenda of developing the next generation is
01:15bolstered by a robust human capital development syllabus.
