00:00The rising number of Ibu Jawa parents enrolling their children in international schools

00:07suggests that the community is losing trust in the quality of national schools, an academic said.

00:12Anwar Ahmad of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia said these parents view international schools

00:21children's prospects. The syllabus of these schools which are from the UK,

00:25Australia, Canada or the US is another selling point as parents see it as an opportunity which

00:30could help their children further their studies overseas. However Anwar said this trend is

00:35concerning as the children who attend international schools may not develop a holistic understanding

00:40of the Malay culture and language. To regain public confidence he said the education ministry

00:45must urgently improve the quality of education and the curriculum and the facilities in national

00:51He was commenting on Education Minister Fatlina Siddiq's revelation that Bumi Putra

00:55enrolment in international schools went up by 49.4% while non-Bumi Putra enrolment

01:00went up by 30.6% from 2019 to 2024.
