00:00The education ministry has been urged to respond to parents' complaints on social media that

00:06the passing grade for the academic session's final examinations has been lowered to 20%.

00:12National Union of the Teaching Professions Secretary-General Fauzi Singhan said the union

00:16will raise the matter with the ministry and urged the ministry to clarify the rationale

00:20behind this decision to parents.

00:23Fauzi was responding to a post on Facebook by former teacher Fadli Saleh who said the

00:27passing grade was lowered from 40% to 20% prompting mixed reactions from parents, some

00:33of whom questioned why the passing grade was lowered.

00:37The final school-based examinations, which replaced centralized national exams like UPSR

00:42and PT3, are conducted for students in years 4-6 and Forms 1-3.

00:48Fadli shared a grading scale poster, which included new thresholds such as 20% to 34%

00:54as passing and 35% as satisfactory.

00:58Last month, Education Minister Fadlina Siddiq said the government will not reverse its decision

01:03to abolish the UPSR and PT3.

01:06She said the move was part of the ministry's broader shift toward reducing student stress

01:10and aligning with international standards by focusing on continuous assessments that

01:14include personal and social development.
