The First Peoples continue to call for equality in recognition.

But, there's some delight with the interest young people are showing in the cultural practices.

00:00We pick up with the procession as it's leaving the Santa Rosa RC Church in Arima.
00:21The Santa Rosa First Peoples celebrated the feast of Saint Rose de Lima on Sunday.
00:27This year marks 238 years of celebrating this festival.
00:32So that it is no longer heavily based in the Catholic Church and that is alright because
00:38spirituality crosses religions.
00:41Archbishop Jason Gordon was at the church for the celebrations and according to the
00:46First Peoples Chief, the Archbishop renewed an apology to the First Peoples.
00:53When somebody at that level of the church recognizes the wrong that the church has done
00:59and apologizes, it can only, I think, augur well for good relations with the church.
01:04He says young people remain interested in the cultural practices but the First Peoples
01:10are still wanting equality.
01:12The Afro-Trinidadians that celebrate African emancipation and Indian arrival, the First
01:19Peoples need recognition at that level.
