00:36In this video, I'm taking you for a hotel tour of the American Inn located in Pensacola
01:05At this point in my career, I know I've stayed in hundreds of different hotels, and I gotta
01:09say that right off the bat, this is one of the more unique ones I've ever experienced.
01:15Hotels and resorts, they generally go into two different directions.
01:19They either go like budget to the extreme, or they cut every corner possible just to
01:23give you the bare minimal hotel room.
01:25Or they go super luxury, head towards the five star resort, providing every possible
01:30amenity imaginable.
01:32The American Inn is one of the lowest cost hotels in Pensacola, so it would definitely
01:37slot in the budget tier when it comes to the nightly room rate.
01:41However, when it comes to the modern touches in the room, and the execution, and the cleanliness,
01:47these are all things that are pretty uncommon in the budget tier.
01:50So the American Inn definitely stands out.
01:52This hotel might not have a swimming pool or exercise room, but you would never know
01:56that looking around this hotel room.
01:59This room definitely gives you the vibe of something that's like $150 a night, despite
02:05them charging roughly half that.
02:08I've definitely paid a lot more at other hotels, and received a lot less.
02:12There's a very impressive value to this particular hotel.
02:15And it's also in a pretty good location.
02:16I mean, we're right down the street from like a super Walmart.
02:20And this hotel is only about five or six miles away from the Naval Aviation Museum.
02:24And that was the primary reason why I came to town.
02:27What's interesting to me about this particular hotel is you can tell it was built from the
02:31ground up for like really low operational costs.
02:35And they made some really efficient choices in the hotel, although some people might have
02:41issues with certain things, at least related to the bathroom, and I'll get to that.
02:46For example, where they situated the wall air conditioner, they did it so it's right
02:52between like the bathroom and the bedroom.
02:56That way, it can absorb the moisture coming out of the bathroom and humidity is rough
03:02to deal with in Florida.
03:03So it's a smart decision putting the air conditioning so close to the bathroom, because of all the
03:08moisture coming off the shower.
03:10And you know, it's going to run in the AC is going to dehumidify the air like right
03:14after you shower.
03:16The downside is to get that maximum airflow between the bathroom and the, I guess the
03:22studio apartment.
03:24There's no bathroom door, none.
03:27It's just like a half wall.
03:29So not only that, but where they situated the mirror, the mirror actually faces the
03:34toilet.
03:36So say you go and share the room with like your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your wife,
03:43husband, whatever it is.
03:45Anyone who's sitting on the bed is going to have like a front row seat of their significant
03:48other taking a giant shit thanks to where the mirror is positioned in the room.
03:54And there's no way to get around that because there's no door.
03:57You have to be very comfortable with whoever you're traveling with, because if they drop
04:01a giant deuce in the john, you're going to get to see every minute of it.
04:05You also can't be approved getting in and out of the shower too.
04:07So the mirror is going to show all your stuff getting in and out of that thing.
04:13This hotel pretty much has all the other amenities that you would expect.
04:17You know, flat screen TV, a mini fridge, all that good stuff.
04:21I will say this about this hotel.
04:24It's very highly rated on hotels for a reason, because for the price it is much cleaner and
04:30nicer and better maintained than you would normally expect at this price point.
04:35Another unique aspect of this particular hotel is they're running like a potpourri machine
04:39in every room.
04:40The first thing that hits you when you walk in is there's this welcoming smell, aroma,
04:46whatever you want to call it.
04:47It's like walking into like a bath and body work store.
04:50It's got that same kind of lavender smell or whatever it is going on and it's very pleasant
04:56and it's probably something that other hotels should do and don't do, because most other
05:01hotel rooms at this price point especially are very musty and stale smelling.
05:05So it's a great idea, whoever came up with it.
05:08I also like that this hotel has kind of like a retro vibe.
05:13You know, they still use old school keys and it's been probably about like four or five
05:17years since I used an old traditional key in a hotel room and they got the little drop
05:21box by the motel office, so you just kind of return it at the end of the night.
05:26So what's my bottom line for the American Inn?
05:29I would definitely recommend it.
05:31It's one of the nicest budget hotels that I've ever stayed at.
05:35Overall I'd give this one probably about a seven and a half out of ten, with ten being
05:41the best, which is what I would say is a perfect score for a one-star motel that without any
05:47amenities like swimming pools, restaurants, that kind of thing.
05:50It is a really nice place for what it is and I don't think you're going to find a better
05:54deal in Pensacola, because trust me, I looked.
05:57Thanks for joining me on this hotel tour.
