Located in Davie, Florida Tree Tops Park is a natural park that was created in 1980. The park sits on a 243.3 acres piece of land that was originally earmarked to be a golf course before Broward County intervened. The park is the gateway to the Pine Island Ridge Natural Area.

It was the scene of the Seminole Indian war battles, led by the Seminole chief Ar-pi-uck-i, also known as Abiaka. Ar-pi-uck-i, also known as Abiaka or Sam Jones, was a powerful spiritual alektca and war chief of the Miccosukee, a Seminole–Muscogee Creek tribe of the Southeast United States. Ar-pi-uck-i successfully defied the U.S. government and refused to remove to the Indian Territory west of the Mississippi and his influential leadership in the Second Seminole War resulted in the permanent Native American presence in Florida. He was undefeated in his battles with the U.S. Army, some battles fought on the very land of tree Tops Park, and skillfully moved his tribe from one location to another to avoid the army. He is a Seminole hero.

00:00For this video, I'm going to take a look at Treetops Park, located in Davie, Florida.
01:03It looks like I'm on vacation again in Florida.
01:05Yeah, I guess I'm a little predictable in that way.
01:08Today, I decided to head down to Davie, Florida to check out Treetops Park.
01:12This is a park that I visited as a kid, and I decided to revisit it as an adult.
01:18While the focus of my channel is mostly theme parks, you know, occasionally I will take a look at one
01:22of these county-maintained parks.
01:24In this case, this one is maintained by Broward County Parks and Recreation.
01:30It's a pretty impressive park.
01:31You know, it sits on about 243 acres, and it's known for its ancient oak canopy.
01:38And they also have a bunch of equestrian trails and hiking trails.
01:42Seven miles of walking trails.
01:45There's an amazing boardwalk here, although I didn't have time to film it, unfortunately.
01:49My focus was mostly on the observation tower that the park is named for.
01:55You know, they're proud of the oak canopies, which is why the park is named Treetops Park.
02:00And they've got this amazing observation tower that I'm currently walking to.
02:05And it's pretty tall, and I've never really seen one built like this before.
02:11It really is kind of a unique facet of this particular county park.
02:16This park has a lot of amenities.
02:18For example, there were quite a few picnic pavilions.
02:21You could see that it's very popular with special events.
02:26There was a couple big, I think, company gatherings, because there were a lot of people that were at the
02:32pavilion the day I was filming.
02:34They have a nice little boardwalk right on the water.
02:38And they do offer, like, boat rentals on the weekends.
02:42There is also a restaurant that's in that same boat dockage area.
02:47Even though they have equestrian trails, in the past they used to actually have horse rentals, too.
02:53But they moved away from that, so I guess anybody who's into the equestrian scene, you're going to have to
02:58bring your own horse.
03:00All the nature trails are really amazing.
03:02And, you know, I think they're all paved, too.
03:05You know, they all seem to have the asphalt down, so they're easy to walk.
03:08They're really well shaded.
03:10I mean, I was here in early May, and even though it was really hot out, thanks to all the
03:18shade and, you know, it was a breezy day, it was just a very pleasant experience to walk around this
03:25park.
03:25I was very impressed with all the nature trails.
03:29And, like I said, being underneath all the oak canopies are just incredible.
03:33It's just a very scenic, picturesque park.
03:36They also have a fitness trail where you can actually kind of go jogging, and they've got those, like, outdoor
03:42kind of exercise, you know, jungle gyms.
03:46I don't know what else to call them, but, you know, the ones where you can do, like, pull-ups
03:50on the bar and push-ups on the wooden, like, piers on the ground and everything.
03:56So they've got some of that stuff going on.
03:58And there's several playgrounds that are perfect for the little kids in your family.
04:03So, I mean, a lot of great playgrounds in this park.
04:07Now, I was here on a weekday, so there is no admission fee charged on the weekdays, as far as
04:14I can tell.
04:15On the weekends and for some of the holidays, they do charge a parking lot fee at the front entrance.
04:22So just be aware of that if you come on a popular day, you might actually have to pay to
04:26get in.
04:27Treetop Parks is also a designated spot on the Florida Birding Trail.
04:32So if you love birdwatching, this is a wonderful place to come.
04:37That observation tower is especially well-suited for that particular task.
04:42If you're a cyclist, there are several paths here that are also approved for bicycle use.
04:47So you can go for an amazing bicycle ride here, too.
04:50I was born and raised in South Florida, so coming back here, I felt very nostalgic.
04:55I was very impressed with Treetops Park, though, especially as a park that, you know, has free admission most of
05:01the time.
05:02The one opportunity that I think this park lacks that some of the other parks in the area thrive at
05:08is a swimming area.
05:10Like, one of my favorite parts about C.B. Smith Park is, like, the water slide area and the artificial
05:15beach and stuff.
05:16So I feel like that's one thing that would really take Treetops to the next level.
05:21If they had, like, some swimming opportunities, I think that would be just amazing.
05:27And they definitely have the space to do it.
05:29So I would hope that they might consider, you know, maybe adding, like, a little swimming area because, you know,
05:35that's what makes C.B. Smith so popular.
05:38So what's my bottom line for Treetops Park?
05:40I highly recommend it.
05:42This is just a wonderful park.
05:44It's so big.
05:46You know, there's plenty of things to explore here with your family.
05:49If you come on a weekday, you don't have to pay an admission fee, which is a nice way to
05:53spend the day, especially considering the condition of the current economy.
05:58You know, when I went to Birch State Park, I was actually very disappointed in how poorly maintained it was.
06:04There was a lot of trash on the ground.
06:05They weren't really maintaining the landscaping very well.
06:09I had the opposite experience here at Treetops Park.
06:13This park was just very, very well maintained.
06:16Broward County Parks and Recreation was just doing a much better job maintaining their facilities than what I saw recently
06:21at the Florida State Park.
06:23I mean, that's just, obviously, it's an anecdotal observation.
06:28Who knows what was going on that day at Birch State Park?
06:31I don't know.
06:31Well, that pretty much wraps up all my thoughts on Treetops Park.
06:35If you enjoyed this video, don't forget to like and subscribe.
06:38Thanks for dropping by for this travel vlog and see everyone next week.
