00:00Rachel and Matthew were our gorgeous children who we've missed so much.
00:05There's no escaping our devastating loss, the awe-consuming grief and the tears.
00:13Our collective heart remains broken beyond repair.
00:17We've been robbed of a beautiful, caring daughter, a son who loved life and had so many adventures ahead of him.
00:26What unfolded in Wianbilla on December 12, 2022 should never have happened.
00:33No police officer committed to their job, their colleagues and their community should die under such horrible, brutal circumstances.
00:43Today our thoughts extend to the bigger police family who are also hurting, and we also remember Alan Dare.
00:51We've never spoken directly to the media before, but today's different.
00:56As hard as it is to stand here, we know how important it is.
01:01It's because we don't want the loss of Matthew and Rachel to be in vain.
01:06We must persevere through our pain to honour their memory and strive for a safer tomorrow.
01:13While the terrible void in our lives will never be filled,
01:17we hope any reforms put forward by the coroner will prevent a tragedy like this happening again
01:24and other families experiencing our heartbreak.
