00:01From the skies to the deep sea, the harsh realities of war and the anti-war movement,
00:08there's lots to squeeze in to the War Memorial's new galleries.
00:12There are 1,200 individuals whose stories are told in the galleries behind us
00:16who have previously never had a chance to share their stories of their service with the Australian people.
00:21The new spaces have been six years in the making.
00:24Opening them to the public is a major milestone in a mammoth half a billion dollar revamp.
00:31It is, I think, extraordinary value for money and I think we'll see that proved out as people come to
00:36visit.
00:37The famous G for George Lancaster bomber is back in pride of place.
00:41It has completed over 90 operations over occupied Europe during the Second World War, which makes it very special.
00:48And more contemporary veteran stories have been unearthed too.
00:51In 1995, Air Vice Marshal Tracy Smart used her camera to document the aftermath of a massacre in Rwanda.
01:00It's important to tell that whole rich tapestry of experiences here
01:05and hopefully my photos are one small part of telling that story.
01:09Many of the objects now on display have never been seen by the public before.
01:14One of the largest is this Chinook helicopter, which flew during four tours of Afghanistan.
01:20The exhibits shed light on once overlooked perspectives and there's no shying away from uncomfortable truths.
01:28We've also been thinking very carefully about duty of care when the visitors are coming to the memorial
01:34and setting up what we're calling respite rooms.
01:38Today, the memorial updated its Ben Robert Smith display to reflect the war crimes charges laid against him.
01:45No further action will be taken until the legal process plays out.
01:50The gravity of the charges that have been laid, the most important thing all of us can do now,
01:54is allow justice to take its course, is to start with the presumption of innocence.
02:00The memorial's new Afghanistan War Gallery will open soon, with its entire redevelopment to be completed in 2028.
02:08I think this and this was the early one commissioned by Naftoth to be noted in language Aftoth
02:08National추 Severalём必aces ingemeき at the portals are earlier,
02:08More of any other community occult as well and the memorial they record.
02:08Thank you for asking yourself for questioning.

02:11Oh, we haven't always thought of any food, but there is for sure.
02:11Thank you all the people!
