Transcript
00:00Today, five days after the world's hottest day ever, we have heard how the
00:07climate and ecological emergency has hastened or even caused the death of so
00:14many people across the world and how unjustly death and suffering is coming
00:22first to the poorest communities who have contributed the very least to the
00:27causes of the climate emergency. We acknowledge and grieve for these deaths
00:35and suffering and recognize that as our world heats they will increase. Every
00:43victim is from a community and has a family. Every loss is mourned by loved
00:51ones. Today we, health professionals and citizens, bear witness to the tragedy of
01:00the climate emergency. A tragedy caused mainly by the burning of oil, gas and
01:06coal, the fossil fuel companies and the banks and the governments that fund and
01:12subsidize them. All of these people have known for decades about the terrible
01:19harms they are causing. Today we also want to honor all those brave
01:27environment defenders in the UK and across the world, including health
01:33professionals, who have risked and sometimes lost their liberty, livelihood
01:40and even their lives for taking peaceful action to tell the truth, to alert
01:48everyone to the grave risks we are facing and the steps that are urgently
01:53needed to protect humanity. Thank you for listening. We know that it is difficult
02:04to face the reality of this crisis. If you would like to talk to someone about
02:09the feelings this has provoked for you
