Four of Australia's most talented young portrait artists were awarded at the Young Archie competition in Sydney. From five to 18-years-old, the finalists dedicated their artwork to their biggest role models.

00:00If a picture's worth a thousand words, then painting your brother must say a lot.
00:07He's just like an awesome older brother. He just inspires me with so much stuff that I'm into.
00:13But sometimes it's the small moments with a school friend that provide award-winning inspiration.
00:20We always go out with each other to dinner on Fridays and sometimes not.
00:28There were plenty of touching tributes on display at the annual Young Archies,
00:32where four winners were picked from a record 4,000 entries.
00:36I painted my art teacher because he taught me how to draw and paint different things.
00:42To me that represents 4,000 young people passionate about art and spending time making something.
00:49For some, the skill comes naturally.
00:52Yeah, I just started it.
00:55For Leah Blatchford, she's had years of practice depicting her mum.
00:59My easel's just on the kitchen bench at the end, so she's just there cooking dinner or just walking around the house
01:05and I can see her proportions.
01:07She was raised by an art teacher, but the teen's attention to detail still comes as a surprise.
