00:00What unfolded here at Carlton train station yesterday afternoon is every
00:06parent's worst nightmare and now authorities are analysing CCTV footage
00:11to try and figure out how a tragedy like this could occur and how they can
00:16prevent it from happening again in the future. We know that a young family of
00:21four consisting of a mother, father and two-year-old twin girls arrived at the
00:27train station. The girls were in a pram and because they had that pram the
00:31parents needed to use the elevator to get to the platform. Once they arrived on
00:36the platform authorities say the parents let go of the pram for what was
00:40described as a very short moment in time but that moment was enough time for the
00:45pram to roll away and fall on to the train tracks. Now the father then
00:50scrambled onto the tracks to try and save his daughters but unfortunately in
00:55what was just terrible timing a train arrived at the station killing the
01:00father and one of the daughters. The second daughter was saved by emergency
01:05services and brought back onto the platform and was reunited with her
01:09distraught mother who had to watch this tragedy unfold right in front of her
01:14eyes. Now the question for emergency services and authorities will be how can
01:18they prevent something like this from happening in the future. We know that
01:22authorities are considering security screens at platforms like we have at
01:27metro rail stations here in Sydney so that's an avenue that they're looking
01:31into as they continue their investigations. We know that the young
01:35family was part of the Indian community here in Sydney and that community is now
01:40wrapping their arms around the mother and the single surviving daughter of
01:44this tragedy.
