00:00Josh Young never expected to be back in the gym lifting weights after a mountain biking
00:08accident left him a paraplegic in 2017.
00:11Came off over a jump and just unfortunately landed in such a way that I broke my T12 vertebrae
00:17and suffered a spinal cord injury and so from the instant I hit the ground I was paralysed.
00:22It completely changed his life, but CrossFit helped him find his purpose again.
00:27It's a form of high intensity interval training that's helped Josh in all aspects of his life.
00:33I can get up on the couch easier, I can get into my car easier, I can push through mud
00:38and dirt with my seven year old easier when we go to the park.
00:42It makes what we do here has a massive transfer into my personal life and it's helped so much.
00:48Now after qualifying first in his adaptive category, he's headed for the CrossFit Games.
00:55The Wallabies player Greg Shanbrook has also qualified at the age of 73.
01:00He'll compete in a new 70 plus category that's being introduced for the first time this year.
01:05They've invited top 10 athletes and I think there are about 550 in my age group that competed
01:12around the world.
01:13Athletes from more than 120 countries will compete alongside Josh and Greg at this year's
01:18CrossFit Games where they'll travel to Texas for a chance to be crowned the fittest person
01:24on earth.
01:25It's more than just a physical feat.
01:28Athletes will need to get through a number of unknown exercises across three days to
01:32test their strength, speed, endurance and skill.
01:36Persevering, pushing through, it's always hard.
01:40It's changed the way that I see the world now, especially being in a wheelchair.
01:44I think it's worth every bit of sweat that we put through this place.
01:48It's pushing the limits of physical and mental strength.
