Parks are great. They're at the heart of our community, making where we live happier, healthier and greener.
00:07
The Green Flag Award is the recognised standard for well-managed parks and green spaces all over the world.
00:14
Every year, we accredit thousands of Green Flag Awards, highlighting the best places to visit and enjoy.
00:21
Our winners are committed to making parks the best they can be for their community.
00:26
Annual inspections identify and reward good practice, providing recommendations for future improvements.
00:33
Every year, our team of over 1,000 volunteer judges assess each park that applies.
00:39
They have experience in the landscape sector, so they understand how parks and green spaces work.
00:45
They look at eight key criteria. A welcoming place is one with good entrances, signage and access for all.
00:54
They check how healthy, safe and secure the facility's equipment and activities are.
01:00
Site features must be well-maintained and clean, including landscapes, buildings and other structures or equipment.
01:08
With environmental management, parks should reduce their impact and respond to climate change.
01:16
A focus on biodiversity, landscape and heritage supports the conservation of habitats and historic features,
01:23
whilst an emphasis on community involvement recognises that it's the people that really bring a park to life.
01:31
Marketing and communication celebrates all the park has to offer, encouraging more people to visit and explore.
01:38
Finally, good management and working to an agreed plan is essential whilst involving the local community.
01:45
The Green Flag Award is the most established scheme in the world, covering a diverse range of criteria.
01:52
And our winners are equally diverse. From city parks to nature reserves, any green space that is free to enter can apply.
02:00
But most of all, the award recognises the hard work of the people behind the places, the management, staff and volunteers.
02:08
It's a celebration of these amazing spaces, so you can be proud to have the Green Flag Award at the heart of your community.
