We speak to the team at Lobo on why Glasgow’s Southside is so popular and recommendations in the area

As Glasgow’s Southside was voted the friendliest area to live, we have been exploring the local businesses to find out why.

00:00So I'm Danny, I'm one of the owners at Lobo on Portshaws Road.

00:04I think it's just a nice atmosphere around here, I think there's a lot of good places

00:09to eat, there's a lot of good places to drink. Also I think it helps that it's quite multicultural

00:14as well, I think that probably helps quite a lot. There's a lot of different backgrounds,

00:19a lot of different stories, it does kind of lend to people being a bit more open,

00:25a bit more friendly I feel. We're quite a broad demographic to be honest,

00:29we've got a lot of people that come in from Govanhill, we've got a lot of people that come

00:33in from Portshaws, from Shorelands, but then we get a lot of people over from the West End as

00:38well who didn't know about Strathbongo, didn't really know much about the Southside,

00:44and that's a big change over the last couple of years, people from different parts of the

00:49city coming over here, which you didn't really get before, people from the West End would

00:52probably tend to stay in the West End, whereas now that's probably a big change.

00:57Bar wise, especially this wee bit here, there's a great selection of bars, Ali Arms is probably

01:04their most famous one, but Heritage is brilliant, the Titwood, Rum Shack's really good,

01:10and there's places opening up all the time, the Torresdale Tavern over the road's just opened,

01:16and then there's a good cafe scene, Sonny Acre's good,

01:20Guston Welsh is nice over the road, Ranji's Kitchen's amazing, so yeah it's definitely

01:28on the way up, there's loads of options. In Govanhill, Big Counter's is one of my favourites,

01:35and Errol's as well, are exceptional, I think Errol's, I've always said best pizza in Glasgow,

01:42Big Counter's doing a lot of interesting stuff, a lot of stuff that you would probably

01:45wouldn't see elsewhere, Barvini's got a good atmosphere, Lunar round the corner, excellent

01:51cocktails, and then up in Shawlins, Philly's is always a bit of a staple, yeah they're my usual go-to's.
