Police investigate deaths of man and woman found in Maribyrnong River

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found in the Maribyrnong River this morning. Mikaela Ortolan reports from Flemington.

00:00Police spent a large part of the day here at the Mary Benong River after the bodies

00:06of a man and woman were found this morning.

00:09A passerby made the grim discovery at about 9 o'clock when they stumbled across a man's

00:14body in the water near Salt River Place at Footscray.

00:17About an hour and a half later, another member of the public found a woman's body in the

00:21water about 800 metres away near Smithfield Road at Flemington.

00:26Detectives have today been scouring the banks of the river and taking photos.

00:30A police boat was also deployed to search the waters and the area has been cordoned

00:35off.

00:36As investigations continue, detectives are trying to determine if there are any links

00:41between the deceased and whether their deaths are suspicious.

00:45Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers.
