00:00At a worksite in Melbourne's south east, the Premier spruked work towards the state's
00:06target of 800,000 new homes.
00:09Today here we're marking the approval of another 800 homes here at Hampton East, across
00:15in Port Melbourne, across town in Broadmeadows.
00:18And also digging into the issue of youth crime, addressing talks between the Attorney General
00:23and justice experts.
00:25The meetings this week are a precursor to a meeting that I will be holding next week
00:29with those representatives and we will, following those meetings, have more to say about further
00:34steps we will take.
00:36Another talk, another meeting does nothing to allay the fears of Victorians about this
00:40issue.
00:41On ABC Radio Melbourne, ahead of another meeting, today with police, the Attorney General flagged
00:47introducing dedicated magistrates to handle recidivist kids.
00:51So that you can get some consistency and understanding, conversations with the police today will be
00:56can you match those efforts in relation to dedicated units.
01:00They talk about people forming relationships with them, forming trust over time, so I can
01:04see some benefit of that.
01:06The Commission for Children and Young People is explicitly tasked with overseeing the safety
01:11of Victorian children.
01:13So far it hasn't been included in the Attorney General's multiple meeting line up.
01:17Children as young as 10 are able to commit criminal offences.
01:22We don't see their voices in this conversation about what it is that they need to actually
01:27respond to it.
01:28So I think that's a really important voice that needs to be heard.
01:32Meanwhile animal activists targeted the Premier's Bendigo electorate office overnight.
01:37Yet again we have seen wanton destructive violence inflicted on my office and I'm really
01:44concerned for my staff.
01:46These are completely unacceptable and should be condemned.
01:49There is no place for this in our political discourse.
01:51A point of unity amid the division on how best to tackle crime.
