The ABC’s managing director Hugh Marks has spoken with ABC radio presenter Hamish McDonald earlier this morning. Mr marks apologised to audiences, as staff prepare to walk off the job.

00:02Well, I think on behalf of the ABC, I feel terrible that we're in a position where we're
00:06going to pull services from the public.
00:08That is our job day to day.

00:10Yeah, very much so.
00:12And I'm sorry to some of those staff that I feel are in a really difficult position
00:17today because I know how difficult this can be for individuals.
00:20I am committed to finding the right outcome, but that outcome has to recognise the fact
00:25that when my funding goes up by 2.27% to 2.8% a year, there is a limit
00:31to how far we can
00:32go in remunerating 60% of the workforce and staff.
00:35I'm trying to find that balance.
00:37I don't think the union will give any recognition for the limitations under which we have to
00:42operate.
