Tropical Rainstorm Beryl brings tornado and flood threat from the Midwest to the Northeast

From July 9-10, Beryl is poised to sweep from the Midwest into the Northeast, with a serious risk for tornadoes in some areas.

00:00As we look at the overall tornado watch here for this area, we're looking at some areas from southern Indiana,

00:05southwestern parts of Ohio, southeast Illinois, and into central and western Kentucky where we're facing an ongoing tornado watch.

00:13This runs until midnight eastern time or 11 central time.

00:16And the tornado risk is the highest category here that we're facing.

00:20That's three out of four.

00:22Among wind, flooding, hail, and tornadoes, we're most concerned about tornadoes in this area.

00:26And the scale does go up to extreme, so a high risk for the AccuWeather Index is three out of four.

00:32So just be aware of that.

00:34And the risk area is greatest in a pretty confined zone right along the immediate Ohio Valley.

00:39Our forecast team did a really good job at highlighting this.

00:42And, again, that's where we've seen the bulk of the damage, the western end of that red zone.

00:47Let's go to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania right now as we're dealing with also some heat

00:51and the chance for some intense thunderstorms eventually rolling into this area fairly soon into the day tomorrow.

00:58We have a lot of areas under heat advisories and excessive heat warnings for Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.

01:05Heat advisories for New York City.

01:07Heat advisory for many areas trimmed away from Pittsburgh recently as you're getting a little cooler at this hour.

01:13But we're going to watch this humidity and heat continue to sail into the area.

01:17The flood risk, that's a big concern, from St. Louis to southern parts of Michigan

01:22and then eventually into parts of the northeast as well.

01:25So, overall, temperatures are still steamy, 94 in Washington, D.C.

01:29That 75 up in Portland looks pretty inviting compared to what's going on farther south.

01:33And the heat continues to bake parts of the northeast with heat and humidity.

01:36AccuWeather real field temperatures will be ranging between 95 and 105 in the red zones for Wednesday.

01:42But then the storms begin to break out as the tropical rainstorm burrow moves just to the north of this area.

01:50And it's going to generally ride just to the north.

01:52But, again, south of the storm track will be that area where there will be some rotating thunderstorms.

01:57And that's the big concern for upstate New York and northern and central Pennsylvania tomorrow.

02:01Let's watch this play out here.

02:0210 p.m. tonight, still some storminess there into Louisville and Cincinnati

02:06and drenching rain through Detroit and up into southwest Michigan.

02:09One area that's seeing some of that really persistent rain has been southwest Michigan.

02:12You may see some significant flash flooding develop there.

02:16Then tomorrow afternoon, these storms get going,

02:18and they're going to be pivoting through the area near I-80 and points northward

02:22with some steaminess driving storms farther south.
