The family of Adelaide man Steven Murphy, who remains were found in an underground bunker, have confronted the you man who assisted to cover up the killing. Marco Yandle apologised to the victim’s family during the Supreme Court hearing as he awaits sentencing later this month.

00:12Marco Yandel was originally jointly charged with his father for the alleged murder, but
00:17instead pleaded guilty to assisting an offender, admitting to concealing items belonging to
00:22the victim and lying to police.
00:25In the Supreme Court today, Mr Murphy's partner confronted the 20-year-old, expressing the
00:30anger and pain she and their two sons have experienced.

00:45The court heard the victim had been sleeping rough and was defenceless at the time of his

00:50Yandel spoke directly to Mr Murphy's family as well as his own in the courtroom, saying
00:56he will forever extend his apologies.
00:59The decision I made was shameful, reckless and weak.
01:02I chose my father over the law, and I completely understand I must face the consequences of
01:07that choice.
01:08The defence lawyer asked for any further penalty to be suspended or served on home detention
01:13given time already spent in custody.
01:15The prosecution opposed that, saying the seriousness of the crime warrants an immediate term of
01:20imprisonment.
01:21Yandel will face sentencing later this month.
