The Summer Of Tennis was launched today at the National Racquet centre in Tacarigua.

Besides the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup, there will also be juniors and masters events, with admission free to the public.

00:00It's called the Summer of Tennis as Trinidad and Tobago is hosting some events at the National
00:05Racquet Centre in Tacarigua.
00:07The big ones are the Davis Cup from July 20th to the 27th, followed by the Billie Jean King
00:12Cup from August 3rd to the 10th.
00:15Both are referred to as the World Cup of Tennis.
00:17Besides that, there are events involving juniors and also masters.
00:22Jemil Danclair who is the Tennis Association's Executive Director says exciting times are
00:27ahead for this country.
00:29So the Summer of Tennis, it comprises of nine regional international events which will be
00:35executed right here at the National Racquet Centre over the period July 12th to August
00:4031st.
00:41These events are in direct alignment with the national sports policy and the national
00:47sports tourism policy, which directive is to make Trinidad and Tobago the regional hub
00:52for tennis or for sports.
00:55The Davis Cup will be played by the men, with two countries being promoted into America's
00:58Group 3 next year.
01:00And which nations are participating in the Davis Cup?
01:03Currently there are nine teams that are scheduled to participate.
01:06Those teams will include Antigua, Barbuda, Aruba, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, St.
01:14Lucia, St. Vincent, USBI and Trinidad and Tobago.
01:20The Billie Jean King Cup involves the ladies and is therefore considered as the female
01:24version of the Davis Cup.
01:26Two countries are to be promoted to the America's Group 2 next year.
01:31There are 10 teams taking part in that tournament as follows.
01:34They would include Antigua, Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Costa Rica, El
01:43Salvador, Jamaica, St. Lucia and host Trinidad and Tobago.
01:48Tennis Association President Hayden Mitchell is pleased with the TNT players selected for
01:52the two main events.
01:53It's a young team we have this year, we are quite excited about it, you know, and it's
01:58blended with experience as well.
02:02You know, so yeah, so there's a process.
02:04We have our top junior and men's and women's athletes here with us today.
02:11The Tennis Association says the Masters events taking place in TNT will run in tandem with
02:16the junior events.
