00:00When we said during the election campaign that the NHS was going through the biggest crisis in
00:04its history, we meant it. When we said that patients are being failed on a daily basis,
00:10it wasn't political rhetoric, but the daily reality faced by millions.
00:15Previous governments have not been willing to admit these simple facts,
00:19but in order to cure an illness, you must first diagnose it.
00:24This government will be honest about the challenges facing our country
00:28and serious about tackling them. From today, the policy of this department
00:34is that the NHS is broken. My immediate priority is to make sure we cut waiting lists. We've got
00:40millions of people waiting, often in months, in pain and agony. We need to get those people back
00:46to health and, in many cases, back to work. In order to do that, we've got to resolve the
00:51industrial action with the junior doctors, which has been rumbling on for far too long.
00:56That's why today, one of my very first calls was to the junior doctors,
01:00inviting them in next week to get the negotiations up and running as a matter of urgency. That's what
01:06the public expect, that's what patients need, and also that's what the doctors deserve too.
01:12I've never taken voters for granted in Ilford North. I won by a very similar margin in 2015.
01:18I've always worked hard to keep the trust of the people of Ilford North. I know we lost lots of
01:26trust over the issue of Gaza, and that was reflected in the result overnight, and I'm
01:32determined to regain that trust, to rebuild that trust with my community.
