A survivor of Sunday’s horrific triple-fatal bus crash in north Queensland has described how a change of seats saved her life. The American teacher was among 33 passengers on board the greyhound bus heading to Townsville when it collided with a caravan.

00:00I didn't realise how damaged the bus was.
00:05Farah Priela had hoped to end her Australian holiday with a North Queensland adventure.
00:11But one hour into the California school teacher's bus journey from Airlie Beach to Townsville,
00:16she woke up to the tragedy unfolding.
00:20All of a sudden I heard this loud bang.
00:24I was just focused, I was just watching and in my mind I said, this is it, it's probably
00:29my last day because it was so surreal.
00:32Thirty-three passengers were on board the Greyhound coach that crashed on the Bruce
00:37Highway at Gumloo on Sunday.
00:40Three died.
00:41We were going sideways this way.
00:43I can see the road, it's like we're not going the lane.
00:47The collision with a caravan towed by a four-wheel drive left catastrophic damage.
00:53Farah Priela says if she hadn't been asked to move her seat to the other side of the
00:57bus, she would have died.
01:00Either in the second row or the third row because the whole thing was destroyed and
01:05part of the camper was inside.
01:08Greyhound says it's focused on the safe delivery of services and is cooperating with police
01:13and supporting its passengers.
01:16The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator is also investigating.
01:21While forensic police probe how the bus travelled to the wrong side of the road, four men remain
01:27in hospital.
01:28One of them is in a critical condition.
01:31My heart and prayers goes out to everybody who were there.
01:36The families of the three people who did not survive.
01:40She now plans to live every moment to the fullest.
