00:00Philadelphia and Paul George agreeing to a four-year, $212 million deal as PG leaves L.A. after five seasons with the Crippers and now is the newest member of the Philadelphia 76ers.
00:16So, J.Y., as we look at Paul George joining Philly, is he that missing third piece alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid to make Philadelphia a legitimate NBA title contender?
00:30If he could stay healthy, absolutely. This is a guy that can go get a bucket, it should drop the usage rate of Joel Embiid a little bit, and it should also space the floor because PG-13, for all of his athleticism, guys, is a pretty good shooter from three.
00:46So, to bring that three-point marksman in there, let's say you think about last year, Tobias Harris, Paul George. Obviously, Paul George is a humongous upgrade in his ability to shoot the ball, and although he has his times when he struggles in the big spot, he still is a prolific scorer.
01:04So, Paul George, that last year, shot the ball 41.3% from three. This is a huge upgrade for Philadelphia, along with getting Kelly Oubre back, signing Andre Drummond to kind of beef up the bench over someone like a Paul Reed. We've got to see how they fill out the roster. Eric Gordon coming in to help out the bench.
01:23If they could stay healthy, and this is a big if because you're talking about Embiid and Paul George. If they could stay healthy, Philadelphia is right there with Boston, maybe a notch below, to win the East.
01:37I like it. I like where you're coming from, Coach, here, but let me ask you this quick question, as well. Take a look at Paul George. Escape from Los Angeles. We have to look at an ownership group because it's one thing with the Clippers that we know. They're not pinching pennies here. They have the wealthiest owner in the NBA.
01:51Why was there a line drawn in the sand where they said, we're not moving off three years to go to four years, which is what Paul George wanted, and quite frankly, if he got the four years, Coach, he never would have left Los Angeles.
02:01Donnie, this is like the wildest part of the whole equation, right? Because Steve Ballmer has more money than anybody in the league. He didn't give four years because he only gave Kawhi three years, but then James Harden, who is definitely on the decline, I know is only two years, got $35 million a year.
02:23So, like, this ain't adding up right now with the Clippers, and you thought that with the Clippers going into that new arena, right, that they were going to put all their chips in the middle of the table and make a run. Now, listen, I know you can sit there and say, oh, well, Paul George misses a lot of games. No one misses more games than Kawhi.
02:41So, to me, if there was a difference of giving him an extra year, a fourth year, give him a fifth year. He wasn't asking for five. Give him four years. If they give him four years, he doesn't come east. Simple as that.
