Eighty-three percent of UK rivers are polluted and 23 beaches are too contaminated with sewage for safe use. Would you feel safe swimming in British waterways this summer?

00:08it's not a clean place to swim and I started swimming I guess during Covid when it seemed

00:14less of an issue but now I'm cautious about swimming there because I've got several friends

00:17who've got sick from swimming there and I really think that it's a hot topic and whoever wins the

00:23next election should make it a priority to address how polluted our waterways are because there's no

00:29reason for it really. It's in the hands of the water companies to do a better job and I think

00:35there needs to be more legislation and also more scrutiny about them improving how they're

00:41disposing of their waste. I do go to the coast quite a lot, I love Scarborough mainly. A lot of

00:46my family they live in Bridlington, my uncle lives on the coast of Scarborough so I can understand if

00:52the coast is being polluted that's really going to affect my family. There needs to be more tighter

00:56legislation, a watchdog with teeth you know that sort of thing.
