00:00Hi, I'm digital reporter Amy Seddon and today I'm bringing you the latest news from across
00:05the North West.
00:06The mayor of a town near Lancashire teenager Jay Slater's last known location has claimed
00:12that the missing teenager may have been seen watching Euros matches. Jay, who had gone
00:16on holiday to Tenerife to attend the NRG Music Festival, was last heard from on Monday morning
00:21last week. This was at around 8.15am when he called his friend Lucy Law to say that
00:26he had missed the bus back to his accommodation and that he was lost, in need of water and
00:31only had 1% charge left on his phone. Jay's phone then cut off, with his last location
00:36showing as the Rural de Teno Park, which is a mountainous area popular with hikers. There
00:40have been a number of reported sightings of the 19-year-old by locals in the town of Santiago
00:45del Teide, which is close to the last location to ping from his phone. According to the Mirror,
00:51Mayor Emilio Jose Navarro said some locals who reported sightings of Jay have already
00:55been interviewed by police, including a few who think they may have seen Jay on the coast
00:59watching Euros matches. A new leisure attraction could be coming to Blackpool Promenade, as
01:05the council has advertised for operators to take over a prime site. Town hall chiefs are
01:10seeking a leisure use for land between South Pier and the Sandcastle Waterpark, which was
01:15previously occupied by a go-karting track. The site has been empty for around two years
01:20after the operators of the track failed to get the go-ahead to extend its planning permission.
01:24Now the council has posted documents on local authority procurement website, The Chest,
01:29seeking a leisure operator for the land, which covers around 3,000 square metres. It fronts
01:34directly onto the promenade and South Shore and has beach access. Documents add this prominent
01:39site is located between the popular attractions of South Pier and Sandcastle Waterpark and
01:44is opposite the Velvet Coaster and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Mains electricity is available
01:48close by and there is access to public toilets opposite. The site is fully hard surfaced.
01:54The land could be leased for up to 15 years, but no details of the rental costs have been
01:58disclosed. The closing date for applications is midnight on July the 18th.
02:04A planning application for car park camera equipment erected without permission, which
02:09captures registration numbers of cars at a protected Morecambe Bay beauty spot, has been
02:13rejected. The retrospective application for a five metre high pole with camera and light
02:18equipment at the Shore Car Park in Shore Road, Silverdale, was refused by Lancaster City
02:23Council's planning committee this week. Lancaster planning officers had recommended approval
02:28of the application, but councillors had to decide. Sarah Fishwick, an objector who is
02:33a former councillor, said, this is the most protected site in the Morecambe Bay area.
02:38The signs are too high, people cannot reach them and they include tied information which
02:42is wrong. There are so many issues. Information says it is private land, but there is access
02:47across the bay. There is no information about the grace period before you get fined, no
02:51information about the other parts of the land. You might go to Grange or other places.
02:56It's insufficient. Planning officer Mark Jackson said developments in such areas should be
03:00sensitive and minimise any impact. The number of people in Burnley receiving benefit support
03:07for anxiety and depression has more than doubled since before the coronavirus pandemic, new
03:12figures show. Department for Work and Pensions figures show 763 people in Burnley received
03:19a PIP for anxiety and depression as of April. This was up from 635 the year before and was
03:26more than double the 366 people receiving support in April 2019 before the pandemic.
03:31Meanwhile, the number of people receiving disability benefits has risen by 77% over
03:36the last four years. Two women were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries, after
03:43being in a collision with a car on a busy Wigan road over the weekend. Emergency services
03:48rushed to Wigan Lane, Swindley at around 6.30pm on Sunday to help the two casualties.
03:54Multiple ambulances and police cars were seen near the Millstone pub, with at least one
03:58side of the carriageway closed to traffic. A North West Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed
04:03two women were taken to hospital, one with suspected serious injuries.
04:09And now for your weather. Today it will be cloudy, dry and warm, with temperatures reaching
04:13highs of 18 degrees in the late afternoon and lows of 13 degrees in the middle of the night.
04:19Different areas across Lancashire may expect rain at random intervals in the day, but they
04:24can also expect some sun, so at least we might see a rain though. Thank you.
