00:00She was very pregnant and they had her covered up to protect her from the rain
00:06and she couldn't walk fast because she was very pregnant.
00:10Thank you so much you guys. Hi mama.
00:14We got to the shelter with 47 minutes to spare.
00:19This particular shelter has a very short timeline when they get cleared for euthanasia
00:25and even though she's a pregnant mama dog, it happens.
00:28Our shelter system is in such crisis mode.
00:34The 3 p.m. deadline is the 3 p.m. deadline.
00:38So I frantically emailed and said we are on our way.
00:46She looked out the window and couldn't get out of there any faster.
00:53I sent her to my amazing friend Carla.
00:57I was grateful to have found a foster because I cannot save an animal without a foster.
01:04I have a full-time job. I already have a foster at my house.
01:09She walked into my house. I put her in her safe zone.
01:12All my dogs came over and sniffed her and she literally just sat there. She just let them.
01:20What do you think, Yana? Can you smell her?
01:26Thank you, Mia. Quiet.
01:31Her body language was just so easy and so, just wanted to come out and be loved. So I let her.
01:44Hi, are you so happy? Are you so excited, mama?
01:48And she sort of did little fat preggo mama happy jumps when we were outside.
01:52I'm like, okay, you need to stop doing that. You're gonna hurt yourself.
01:57I would record her because when she would lay down, you could see the puppies moving inside.
02:07I really enjoyed getting those videos from Carla. We were guessing how many babies were in there.
02:17This looks like a dozen eggs.
02:20Baby, where are the puppies? Are they gonna come out soon?
02:25She had milk already in, but you never kind of know. That doesn't mean that they're coming today.
02:49The day I knew she was going into labor, she was acting really weird.
02:52She just kept sitting still and I'm like, okay, stuff's coming.
02:58And literally within an hour, she had her first puppy.
03:14She did start becoming protective of her puppies, rightfully so, any mom would.
03:23Mama. I know.
03:26If any of the dogs got near her, she would kind of lunge.
03:30So she did have to move out to the puppy house.
03:37Hey, she can't see. I know you're being protective. It's all right.
03:42Hi. Can you see which foot to do?
03:46After that, she just rested. She just laid and cleaned them and fed them.
03:53Our puppy house has its own little yard, windows, everything, so she could come outside in the sun if she wanted.
04:00Taking a break, Mama?
04:03But she was very happy to have me out there and petting her and loving her and just being able to feel like she could rest.
04:09Are you the best Mama? Are you the prettiest Mama?
04:13Look at those rolls.
04:16You're so funny.
04:21I've had Mama dogs who literally do not want to go in there and feed their puppies and I have to make them, but this girl was all about it.
04:30She always wanted to be with them.
04:38When I went to visit Mama Stormy, she was so sweet and let me sit down with her babies.
04:43Girl.
04:45Okay, girl. No ear. You're missing the ear.
04:48Okay, let's see.
04:51Boy.
04:53Hey!
04:55Hey!
04:57Hey!
04:59Hey!
05:01Hey!
05:03Hey!
05:05Hey!
05:07Hey!
05:09Hey!
05:11Hey!
05:13Hey!
05:15Hey!
05:16Boy.
05:18Hey, where are you going?
05:20Mommy!
05:21You messed up.
05:24She's a baby herself. She's like a baby having babies.
05:34I have another beautiful pit bull there who's blind named Anna.
05:39As the babies get bigger and Mama wants to come out, she started to rejoin the pack again.
05:47She's just bonding with Anna and they're playing and it's almost like these Mama dogs who don't ask to be born, who don't ask to have babies, they're a puppy themselves.
05:57Mama Stormy has to be a year, maybe two.
06:02Stormy is just a baby herself.
06:05The first time I was doing something and I didn't know where she went, I found her and Anna playing in the backyard for the very first time, like really playing.
06:12It was just amazing to watch her just being a puppy herself. It was so cute.
06:18It really has been a special thing to watch this beautiful relationship bloom.
06:24Hi! What y'all doing? You ready to get some vaccines?
06:30Once the puppies got old enough, it was time to put everybody up for adoption.
06:35Incredibly, Mama Stormy was the first one out of everybody to find her forever home.
06:44I usually get more attached to the moms because everyone wants a puppy. Puppies are cute and playful and the moms, you know, most likely didn't have the best life up until now and so I kind of get attached to them more so.
06:57So watching Stormy go was a little harder, but I knew she was going to an amazing home.
07:05And she went to a house with two little kids.
07:12I love that she gets to have kids to grow up with. It's the cutest thing.
07:18She's a very, very good girl and she deserved to live.
07:21I grew up with pit bulls and my little childhood dream was to rescue pit bulls when I got older and now I'm fortunate enough to do that.
07:30But I have to always just kind of take the high road and keep my frequency high and think about the dogs that I have saved and will save because I wish I could do it for everybody.
07:42But it's very, very rewarding to be able to make a difference.
