00:00Plenty of us will be looking forward to our summer holidays coming up and although this
00:10year with the cost of living crisis still ongoing, some of us might be looking at cheaper
00:14ways of holidaying like staying somewhere in Wales or the rest of the UK. Some lucky
00:19few though will definitely be looking at flying to somewhere a little bit warmer.
00:24We're here in Cardiff Airport to take a look at everything you need to know before flying
00:28from Reuss. This airport has had a bit of a tumultuous history and is now owned by the
00:32taxpayer. It was bought by the Welsh Government way back in 2013 for £52m and was supposed
00:38to become the designated airport for Welsh travellers but that hasn't really happened.
00:46It never quite recovered its already low pre-pandemic levels of passengers and many have seen it
00:51as a waste of money from the Welsh Government. Still, it's seen some iconic moments, not
00:55least when the Wales squad flew from here on their way to Qatar for the World Cup in
00:592022.
01:04So for those of you who will be flying from here this summer, let's take a look at how
01:19you can best plan ahead.
01:23When I made my way to the airport today I thought it was best and easiest to get a map
01:27app up on my phone and follow those directions. Well, that turned out to maybe be an oversight.
01:32It took me down some proper country lanes and even though there wasn't much traffic
01:36around generally, the route took much longer than planned because they're all single track
01:40roads. So that was definitely a bit of a nightmare. It was a nice drive though through some beautiful
01:45villages, but that's probably not what you're looking for if you're rushing to catch a flight.
01:52All I can suggest is to follow the proper signs. If you're coming from the Newport or
01:55Cardiff directions via the M4, take junction 33 and not 34 like Google Maps told me to.
02:01If you're coming from the Swansea side, take junction 37 at the pile turn off.
02:08So when you actually get here, unless you're lucky enough to have someone drop you off,
02:11you'll need to park. And the benefit of Cardiff airport being a smaller one is that parking
02:15is relatively easy and really quite close to the airport. I'm here in the car park now
02:21and you can see it's just a few minutes walk to the airport behind me. Staying for a week
02:26will cost somewhere close to £120-£150 depending on if you pay for wider spaces and things
02:31like that. And that price doesn't really increase even though through the summer holidays.
02:38So you've got here, you're parked and now it's the easy bit. The whole airport really
02:41isn't very big so you can't miss the check-in desks and the departures land also isn't that
02:46big so it's all quite self-explanatory. And now you're on your way to your final destination,
02:52ready to enjoy your summer holiday. Kyle Tythiago, have a safe trip.
